Furthermore, Joan Petersilia (2004) claims returning prisoners, in comparison with their predecessors, will have served longer sentences, be more detached from family and friends, and have lower education and employable skills – to name a few things. Hence, it is evident that released inmates need help to confront such barriers so that they are not quick to return to crime. The negative consequences of the lack of services are significant. Since incarcerated individuals are lacking tools and support services and have been out of the labor market for a number years, the situation at hand is to teach incarcerated women employment techniques to secure jobs and obtain financial stability. As these women secure and maintain employment, crime and recidivism rates will decrease. For program services (outputs), workshops will be provided to encourage prosocial behaviors. One of the barriers prisoners face is not being able to find meaningful work due to an employer’s reluctance to hire released inmates, which is another cause of the problem of increased recidivism (Jonson & Cullen, 2015). This reluctance, of course, can influence the program’s success. In addition, the prisoners’ mentalities prior to entering the program can have an effect on the success of the program. Inmates may not be as eager or as receptive as we would like them to be.
