The way I would do this would be to bring in every officer on the department as well as surrounding departments, and FBI, ATF, EMS, FD, and Hazmat. I would immediately try to clear the building due to a gunman still being in the room and have several officers, along with FBI proceed to the room to take down the clear the room and announce safety. During this time I would set up a command post in a nearby lot to keep people out of the crime scene and also ensure safety. Also I would send out alerts to students and staff to notify about the danger of the building and to avoid campus. Additionally I would send officers to advise any nearby people to remain in their homes.…

In order to better prepare myself if there is an active shooter on campus is to start scanning the room or buildings I go to on a daily basis to get an idea of the best escape routes and hiding places in that building. In order to communicate safety to residents to prepare them if an active shooter is on campus or in the building is to have an informational event that goes over the Run Hide Fight method and other ways they can prepare. Also, having posters with reminders around the hall on how to prepare inside and outside the building would be helpful. To remain safe during an active shooter incident, I would have to stay calm and collective in order to find the nearest exit or hiding spot. If it is absolutely impossible for me to get out…

There are many alternatives for protection that are just as effective as using the deadly force of a gun. A way to improve safety for all students would be provide them with a form of protection like a Taser, pepper spray, or fight training that would be easier for them to act on rather than digging through their bag, taking off the safety, and aiming their gun to possibly kill someone who is armed or perhaps unarmed. Major precaution should be taken to keep weapons as far away from the learning environment as possible. All buildings on campus should have weapon detectors that signal upon a firearm entering a building. Texas State Police should continue to monitor cameras around campus for unusual activity.…
