Pulling to the side of the road, getting out of the truck, Coach Bill told Austin to stand back. Within minutes, he changed the tire and was ready to leave. While helping Austin into the truck, Bill heard a noise, and looked up, he saw several dogs barking and running through the tall grass toward them. Pushing Austin into the truck, he closed the door and grabbed a large piece of pipe from the back of his truck. Swinging it while going to the dogs shouting, “Get out of here! Get out of here!” The dogs stopped, as several looked around while others continued barking, growling and showing their teeth, looking as if they wanted to tear him into pieces. Swinging the pipe again, he rushed to them trying to scare them. Suddenly they went back towards the grass. “Damn it! I would like to kick their dead ass for abandoning them,” Bill yelled in anger. A whining noise from the nearby, tall grass startled Bill. Hoping his son had not it, but knew he was wrong when he went to check it, and Austin came running behind him.
During the search for the noise, Bill found a puppy playing in the grass. “I guess it is part of the pack and couldn’t keep up with the others,” he said handing it to his son. “Put it in the truck and lock it, I’ll see if I can find any more.”
“Oh no,” Bill said and notice a large, white dog lying a few feet from him in a pool of blood. Going over to it, he touched it with his foot, it was dead, another puppy played nearby.
