Sitting on the silver plate was a farm-fresh egg, two pieces of scrumptious butter toast and two slices of bacon. It was such a treat to be having this meal and Shirley’s mouth would not stop watering. It was right at that moment that Shirley realized a treat like this meant only one thing, mom had something important to tell them. As they finished gobbling up their delicious breakfast, mom broke the big news, their cousins from California were going to be at Grandma and Grandpa’s today. Shirley was so ecstatic because this event only happened once a year. This meant that she got to play with cousin Carol all day and she began planning all the things they would do together. Her family did not have much money at the time, so they were proud of the car they had. Her father started up the old four door and they started down the dusty gravel driveway. After a few minutes, they merged onto highway 71 and they were on their way to grandma and grandpa’s house. Shirley loved this highway because of all the beautiful scenery it had to offer. There were lakes twinkling with the reflection of the sun and trees, oh so green, that stood tall in the distance. After 30 min of driving on the highway, the car took a left turn onto a dirt road that lead to Grandma and Grandpa’s tavern. They continued driving for another 15 minutes before hitting Shirley’s favorite part of the drive, the humongous hill. This was Shirley’s favorite part because she felt as if she was on a rollercoaster and the thrill overwhelmed her each and every time they went up it. At the bottom of the hill stood Lake Beauty. Shirley peered out her window and saw boats, many boats, filled with men catching as many fish as they possibly could. She was amazed each and every time how gigantic the lake was and how so many fish could live in it.
