Progressives wanted to use the government in order to improve social welfare. With all of the supports of the Progressive Era, there were also many opposers that were against helping the poor and the immigrants. This increased sense of Nativism kept building until and after the Red Scare. Having dealt with the Progressives and immigrants caused an increase in anti-radicalism and anti-immigration. These Americans were then able to let out these thoughts in the Klu Klux Klan.
