Red Scar: A Narrative Fiction

Improved Essays
The cold, crisp night slowly crept through the valley as the sun melted on the horizon like molten lava. Soon the land would be at darkness's disposal;sleeping, waiting, and unwinding from the day's trials, calming my busy mind. Silence fell like a thin linen blanket, covering a sleeping baby, wanting nothing but to wake it from its peaceful slumber. A light fog began to appear and softy touched my skin as I sat and looked at the magnificent stars above. Soon the sun will rise once more, and the earth will sustain its ever going affair.

Journal Entry 1 – Descriptive Entry (Act II - Proctor) Diary, Although I had promised myself to never open and write in this book again, I can’t help but feel that today’s events should be recorded in here so I can set them away from my mind. If the memories are remembered in here, I wouldn’t to hold remember them in my mind. I had just come back home after a long day of planting and tending the land. I placed my rifle down beside the fireplace as I was welcomed in by the wave of warmth, a distinct contrast from the merciless chill outside.…

The neighborhood was noiseless, and the sky was pitch black, for there had been no moon on that summer morning in June. My mother and father started our car and waited for Sofia,my sister, sean ,my friend, and me to get inside. It was time to leave our dull suburban home in San Jose, and drive to the beloved National Park, Yosemite, to hike Half Dome. On the car ride there I had slept, but awoke right when we had gotten into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Looking outside of the window and noticing all of the evergreen trees was surreal for me, as I rolled down my window a strong smell of pine and fresh air poured into the car.…

There was a time When a free sun ran across cobalt And fields of lavender drifted o’er canopies of emerald trees To dissolve into the sky; wisps diluting sapphire to amethyst While radiance transformed our eyes in a flurry of colors Into shards of light, revolving around an epicenter of solid fixation And we spent hours staring; eyes glistening in fascination With not a care in the world Like Noah who sent a dove to bring back hope We were at peace with calm Not a matter to worry Nor a worry in mind Peacefully, Blissfully Then as time wove its tapestry in whirlwinds of flashes…

‘Report to Wordsworth’ by Boey Kim Cheng and ‘Lament’ by Gillian Clarke share the common theme of human destruction of nature and death. In “Report to Wordsworth”, Cheng explores the damage of nature caused by men and their reckless attitude, while "Lament” explores damage from the Gulf War. Cheng shows the theme of human destruction of nature as a response to William Wordsworth, a poet who celebrated nature’s beauty in his poetry. It is written ironically in sonnet form, as sonnets are typically love poems. Clarke explores environmental and human damage from the Gulf War.…
