Phosphorus is an element with the atomic number 15 and is described by the symbol P. Phosphorus was found in 1669 by a man named Hennig Brand. Brand was testing urine samples when he came across a weird substance now known as Phosphorus. Phosphorus is stored in the small intestine, but is mostly found in your bones. Phosphorus can be helpful in so many different ways. Phosphorus can be found in food such as meats, peas, and different types of dried beans. Phosphorus can also be used in fireworks, matches, or bombs. There are three main types of phosphorus: white, red, and black. White phosphorus is the most dangerous of the three, it is very poisonous and can burst into flames when exposed to oxygen. Red phosphorus however is not poisonous

    During this lab, my main goal was to discover exactly how much phosphorus (or phosphate) is in the composition of plant food, or in the case of the Guided Inquiry portion of the lab, in two different brands of plant food. If I put it in the most concise way possible, to do this, I carried out quite a few processes that caused the components of the plant food to separate from each other. Basically, I got the phosphorus, along with some other substances, to form as a precipitate. Next, through a filtering method, I was able to isolate the aqueous solution (the one that the precipitate formed in) from the solid, yet very fine, precipitate.
