Red and white meat differ nutritionally in the levels of saturated fat and vitimins they contain, chicken and fish have six times more fat than red meat, but beef and pork have higher levels of B6, B12, iron and zinc. These vitamins give athletes an energy boost when working out while the higher fat content and protein in white meat helps build muscle and contributes to post workout recovery, as reported by Mens Health Magazine.
Most four legged animals are categorized as red meat, and birds and fish are most commonly referred to as white. Exceptions to the rule include veal, labelled as white meat, and duck and goose, which are filed under red meats.
