Are you still a picky eater? I don’t know if you remember but back in middle school you didn’t eat anything! You would only eat fruits, vegetables, and a little bit of junk food. Your favorite spot to eat was Wings on Brookwood and you loved Red Hot sauce. You also loved going to Texas Roadhouse but would only eat chicken tenders and fries. In fact, that’s what you mainly ate anywhere you went. There was another thing that you loved to eat and you ate it when you and your family went to Florida. You loved crab legs, and this year, just began to like shrimp. You also need to go to Red Lobster some more. They have the best bread and since you only used to go to Florida in spring break (you might go more now) you can only eat crab legs at Red

How the Lobster Became Fancy is an article written by Daniel Luzer and published by Pacific Standard Magazine. Although this article is intended to be an informal magazine article, it presents a lot of valid points on why David Foster Wallace wrote about “Consider(ing) the Lobster”, and supports the argument with other sources and a well-spoken opinion. The article is presented in a timeline, beginning from the start of when the lobster was first eaten as food – in the year 1622 as a food for prisoners and the extreme impoverish – and finishes to where we are now, and why we continue to treat lobster as a luxury food. Its conclusion and purpose is very clearly stated in the bold letters near the start of the article: “Lobster might seem to taste better to us because it’s so expensive.” (Luzer 4).…

In “Consider The Lobster,” David Foster Wallace offers an interestingly ironic perspective on the intent of a creator when it comes to literature. As an author, Wallace has an insider’s perspective as to how audiences should be treating and accepting various forms of literature. On the surface, “Consider The Lobster” is an essay about the unimaginable treatment of lobsters in the Maine Lobster Festival which has an incredible lasting impact on the reader, leading them to feel an extreme amount of sympathy for the millions of lobsters tortured during the festival. Throughout the essay, he brings up a lot of definitive points that drive this sympathy into his reader, such as a hypothetical parallel “Nebraska Beef Festival...” where part of the festivities is watching trucks pull up with live cattle that “...get driven down the ramp and slaughtered right there on the World’s Largest Killing Floor...” (Wallace 62.)…

Before proceeding to read “Considering the Lobsters” by David Foster Wallace the title of this article caught me by surprise, it is evident that this reading was going to be about Lobsters of course but it makes you think, what about them? Maybe the history of lobsters, where they came from, or maybe even the decrease or increase in population of these sea creatures. Wallace organizes this article starting out stating everything an individual needs to know about the (MLF) Maine Lobster Fest that occurs every year and is open to people who indulge on lobster. He then goes into great detail about specific types of lobster and the different kinds there are, how they are prepared, and even the utensils they are to be eaten with.…

Survival and vulnerability are two themes which appear totally independent of one another, yet both are universal human experiences which often coexist and influence an individual’s behaviour. It is human instinct to survive in dangerous situations, to protect oneself from potential harm. It is also human instinct to hide one’s vulnerability from others out of fear of those vulnerabilities being used against them. In Russell Banks’s short story “Lobster Night” he explores the relationship between gender politics, survival, and vulnerability when Stacy and Noonan reveal personal stories of weakness and survival to each other. Despite this newfound connection built between the two characters when both Stacy and Noonan expose their vulnerability,…
