Red Hunting Hat Symbolism Essay

a cigarette box to be my shape of the poster, it is because I realized Holden always smokes in the story. I feel that cigarettes can help him express his feeling. It might not resolve his problems but at least it might make him feel relaxing and calm his emotion. On the cigarette box, I draw some ducks and a red hunting hat in the middle. The red hunting hat symbolizes his uniqueness and individuality. He is an outsider and tries to live differently from the phony people around him. He gets annoyed by all the phoniness, however, he doesn’t use to wear it around the people he knows. The ducks that I draw around the red hunting hat symbolizes Holden’s curiosity to youth, and the willingness to encounter the mysterious world. Holden is terrific …show more content…
I also put two dream catchers on each side, they represent Holden tries hard to make his dream comes true. Holden wants to catch children from falling into adulthood, and he has encountered a lot. However, he is changing at the end and starts to understand that growing up is not the worst thing in the world and life is just like this. The only thing that he can do is to accept it. Also, the carousel behind the red hunting hat symbolises HOlden’s desire of childhood. He feels so happy when Phoebe keep going around and around on the carousel. In my opinion, I think he is happy because how Phoebe is riding the carousel represents she still has so many year to enjoy her childhood and is safe on the carousel. Once fell down from the carousel means falling into adulthood from childhood also. So it is why Holden is glad that Phoebe is still riding on the carousel safely and delightedly. The color I use in the poster to describe Holden is purple and grey. I think dark colors can represent HOlden’s negativeness and depression. Holden is being so negative throughout the book, no matter what he sees or encounters, he usually treats the whole situation

The Painful Journey Into the Wild by John Krakauer and The Catcher in the Rye by D.J. Salinger are stories of opinionated, stubborn young men on introspective journeys provoked by feelings that they are unable to comprehend. The protagonists, Chris McCandless and Holden Caulfield, both travel nearly identical paths, though they have very unique idiosyncrasies. Both Chris McCandless and Holden Caulfield are linked by the unhealable wound archetype, and fueled by oppressed feelings of discontent and confusion towards their family members respectively. They channel their feelings inward, which pushes them towards searching for an escape, “in the wild”.…

It was under the bed. I put it on, and turned the old peak around the back, the way I liked it” (Salinger 46). If listening to the subtleties, then from the beginning of Holden’s narrative, a flood of important details would be noted. He mentions his parents and his family, his childhood and talks about himself all within the span of about one long sentence. These details provide us that he had, a “lousy childhood,” “okay” parents, and that he deemed himself to be a burden on his parents (Salinger 1). This is indicative of a low self-esteem and a history of frustration. Furthering supporting the claim of Holden’s long-term frustration is his grey hair.…

Even though Holden thinks he is “yellow”, he can be violent and have extremely violent thoughts, which makes Holden seem a danger to others (117). One example of how Holden thinks violently is when he is talking to Ackley about his new hat and says, “I took it off and looked at it. I sort of closed one eye, like I was taking aim at it. ‘This is a people shooting hat,’ I said. ‘I shoot people in this hat’” (30).…

In the Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger uses various examples of symbolism throughout the novel to let the readers into the mind of Holden Caulfield. The red hunting hat stands for Holden's individuality and independence because he believes everyone is phony, he hates being the same as everyone else, and wants to stand out. Holden is told he needs some form of help and by the end of the book, he finds it. Another factor that plays why Holden wears the red hunting hat is because, the color of the hat reminds Holden of Allie’s red hair. While Holden goes through his adventures he wears it for himself and he feels like himself for a change, wearing it; he’s hunting for truth, and he wears it like a catcher.…

Reading literature invokes the most intellectual recesses of the human mind. At face value, a story is a thread of plot points or events or happenings; anyone with the simple abilities of reading and remembering can follow a story from its first page to its last, but this mere action, to follow a story, draws no merit, for the true labour in reading literature lies in understanding the meaning beneath each word. One skeptical advocate may suppose that there exists no ulterior meaning to the events that unfold in a body of literature; Thomas C. Foster in his book, How to Read Literature like a Professor, argues on the contrary. Writers of literature carefully and intelligently compose their work with the sole purpose to weave layers upon layers…

Throughout the novel The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger frequently utilizes symbols in order to develop a theme. One recurring theme in the novel is that maturity comes with a price that many are reluctant to pay—the loss of innocence. The author employs symbols like the Museum of Natural History, the “F*** You” signs on the walls, and the Carousel to illustrate this theme. However, moving on from your childhood is an essential part of life, although it may be difficult.…

Novel Analysis Set in two opposite time periods, these two books are as alike as they are different. It is easy to perceive that both novels, The Catcher in the Rye and Their Eyes Were Watching God, follow a noticeable pattern involving dialect, writing style, and theme. The novels address a clear theme of sexuality in two growing characters, as they explain their stories and lives throughout the course of the book’s journey. Both books take a very serious and stylistic approach to the topics of dialect and writing style. It is noticeable in the first few pages of both that the authors have clear intentions of creating a novel that is not only sound and verbose, but shapes the language around the characters and the world.…
