Before watching this production, I was able to read the written book. I feel that it was very similar to the book, because even though they didn’t include every scene, we still experienced the most important. In the first scene, I would have preferred if the characters were facing more towards the audience, and in the second scene, I also would have liked it if a few of the characters would have added more enthusiasm to their roles. For the third scene I would have liked it if they could have added and actual barrier or something for Sal to hide behind, or in scene four I would have enjoyed if a few of the characters would have smiled a little less. Although scene five was very well done, I would have liked it if the other prisoner had tried a little bit to keep Curzon’s hat, before letting Sal have it. Although I enjoyed this production, those are just the few things that I would change.
The Red Hat Crew did an amazing job at turning a book into a play, and for the most part, it was very well done. I liked at least one part of each scene, and I also had at least one thing to change in each scene. I am very glad that I have been able to see this magical production that really made me feel like I was witnessing the story of young slave
