"Go time," I asserted and Angie and I got out of the van and strolled up the pathway to the house. I remember how his front yard was a jungle of overgrown grass and thorny weeds. We both had red toolboxes; inside of them were our favorite weapons, their ammunition, and other supplies for the mission. “Let’s try ringing the doorbell,” I suggested after I had tested the door and finding it locked. “Sure, I’ll do it,” Angie volunteered. She rang the doorbell, we waited a little bit, and then she rang it again; nobody responded and nothing happened. “Door breaching charge,” I proposed in an over-eager manner. “Sure, why not,” she laughed. It made me wonder if they were gifted with night vision or if they just did it to be creepy. As we turned towards the direction the clown ran off to we were greeted by a living room filled with hanging piñatas; there were at least a hundred piñatas. Dillard uses an image of a clown to state ideas that will become notable later in the essay. In her hotel room outside Yakima, Dillard sees a twisted painting of a clown made of vegetables, in which she describes. Dillard states, “I assume, a great many things I wanted to remember—but I have not forgotten that clown painting or its lunatic setting in the old hotel” (97). This scene anticipates the effect the eclipse will have. The clown is made up of vegetables; it is not what it sounds to be.…

Although in Truman Capote’s book In Cold Blood, the author is illustrating the points of view of Holcomb, Dick, and Perry after the murder of the Clutter family, his prime motive is to exploit the devastation felt by the community; therefore, he accomplishes this by emphasizing the agony, confusion, and panic experienced by a loss. Capote uses tricolon to help convey the dark blanket of emotions that overcame Holcomb after the murders, which one can see from the perspective of Agent Alvin Dewey’s family. One night after the death of the Clutter family, Mrs. Dewey hears one of her normally untroubled sons crying in his room, and again at their breakfast table the next morning: “His mother had not needed to ask him why [he was crying]; she…
