Red Dead Redemption

While I sit here playing Red Dead Redemption by Rockstar San Diego it reminds of a lot of action adventure games. The game resembles any other game I have played, but the animations during the hunting sense are something to be seen. My character is equipped with a carbine rifle that he uses to hunt a variety of animals. The hunting aspect of the game is so appealing; in fact, it I was so overcome by it that I lost focus of what my other objectives where.
Red Dead Redemption, not only allows the player to shoot your prey, but the player can also skin and harvest prey, and it’s the harvesting that makes the hunting so rewarding this game. The player is rewarded trophies for their skilled hunting, the trophies are not that significant, but they added value to the act of hunting they signified what a great hunter could achieve. This alone is sufficient enough to differentiate Red Dead Redemption from that of Grand Theft Auto (GTA). These rewards let the players know that their actions are acknowledged; they also provide players an organized way to challenge themselves and understand the progress they have made in the game. It provides the accomplishment with some idea of significance that can be carried over after the game is

Video games are arguably even less associated with storytelling than comics are, with some critics believing “that the video-game form is incompatible with traditional concepts of narrative” (Bissel, 93). Where the medium truly excels, however, is with its capacity for immersion. Like how the addition of sound allowed filmgoers to not just watch the action but hear it, “Every new medium that has been invented … has increased the transporting power of narrative” (Rose, 36). Where readers of books and viewers of movies are passive, gamers take an active role in their narratives. In games like Mass Effect this means making key decisions that affect the development of the plot, but in games like Naughty Dog’s Uncharted and The Last of Us, this…

Hunting has been around since the dawn of time. Having transformed from a vital means of survival to a sporting activity, people have long debated both sides of the issue. While some view hunting as a righteous action, others despise the deed. The argument for hunting as an admirable or distasteful act is still relevant to present society. As seen in the writings of Rick Bass and Robert G. Schreiner through many comparisons and differences, imagery, deeper meanings, stances, and views, the debate of hunting is a controversial matter.…

People who aren 't gamers don’t understand a current problem within the gaming industry. Unfortunately for gamers, the video game industry is dominated by greedy companies and lazy game producers that are constantly putting out games that are low in quality and high in price. These games often do not contain what was promised to consumers, whether that refers to the quality of the graphics, the gameplay, the story, or the stuff that happens when you conquer the game. Since customers are often charged a whopping sixty dollars for one of these games, it’s really upsetting when gamers do not get the quality product that was promised to them. While these video game companies should try to make money, they should also be fair to the customers who…

Grand Theft Auto V is a video game designed by Rockstar North and was released in 2013 to critical acclaim. The game revolves around three protagonists or antagonist (depending on your views) named Franklin, Michael, and Trevor who are all on a mission to succeed in the city of saints, Los Santos, which in itself is a satirical reimagining of modern day Los Angeles. The game starts off with a bank robbery that occurs in the small city of North Yankton. Here you are introduced to Michael, Trevor, and Brad who attempt to escape a barrage of mid-western cops. However, their plan goes sour when Michael and Brad get shot and are presumed dead, forcing Trevor to retreat into the wilderness.…
