Red Chief Ransom

"The Ransom of Red Chief" is a short story in which O. Henry, the author, presents a hilarious view of a ransom. Bill Driscoll, Sam, Red Chief are the main characters. Bill and Sam decide to come up with a kidnapping plot for two thousand dollar so they can have enough money to finish their scheme somewhere else. They had taken in the first person they saw which was Red Chief and he did put up a fight. Once he was taken the kidnappers took him outside of the village and inside a cave. The boy put up a fight like a Weller. As flat as a flannel cake, he started up a howl like a calliope and fastened himself as tight as a leach to bills leg. Red Chief gave Sam and Bill a run from their money in the story. Bill and Sam selected their first victim the only child of a prominent citizen named Eleneger Dorset. Bill says her little boy would you like to have a bag of candy, the boys catches Bill neatly in the eye with a piece of trick. "Red Chief says I to the kid would you like to go home and what for". Because Chief did not like to go to school nor did he like being home so the story pretty much switch over from a ransom idea to pretty much a camping trip. Red Chief starts to ask them to play a game with them because he thought of it as a camping trip and forgot that he has been kidnapped. When Red Chief gave the opposite of what the expected and Sam was ready to get rid of him for good. The oppressive nature of a ransom in "The Ransom of Red Chief" may as well been named the attempt ransom of red chief. Because he did not want to go back home he thought that it was a hiking trip. When the kidnappers took him home they had got paid $250 for the return of the man son and the boy still did not want to go home. Sam had to baby sit Red Chief while Bill took care of business. Sam had to play all kinds of game with red Chief until he had got tired of playing
