Similar in many ways, every story read has a lesson learned at the end. For instance, Ebeneezer Scrooge is one of the wealthiest men in town, but his greed and grumpy attitude causes him to encounter the three ghosts of Christmas, that change his personality into a more loving and caring man. Without a doubt, Mr. Scrooge is an example of a character that changes throughout the story for the better. In other words, he is an archetype. An archetype is a prototype or model.…

Gothic literature can be classified by various characteristics. These characteristics can show up alone in some works, but when they appear simultaneously, the work can be determined as gothic. “Jane Eyre” (I would just italicize instead of “ but you do you) fully exhibits these common gothic elements; however, another work that incorporates many of these elements is “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Although at first glance, it appears to simply be a fairytale, upon deeper inspection, there are certain elements tied into the plotline that, I believe, classify it as a gothic tale. “Jane Eyre” is a classic example of gothic literature.…

Fairy tales are a wonderful thing for many young children all over the world. They can teach life lessons that everyone should know as they grow to become part of society. Fairy tales also teach children the wrong way of living, causing them to expect the wrong things in life. Fairy tales show that the lower class is so desperate to find happiness that they will destroy themselves in the process of finding it. Some fairy tales that show this lesson are The Snow Man by Hans Christian Anderson, The Godfather by Brothers Grimm, and The Moon by The Brothers Grimm.…

The Brother Grimm’s version of Cinderella has hidden meanings in the stories that teach us about how the story resembles or symbolize our society. The first symbol in the story that stood out to me the most is the stepsisters representing society 's cruelness and greed. The second symbol was the stepmother’s envy of Cinderella 's beauty, because Cinderella was more beautiful than her daughter 's. The stepmother thought that her daughter’s were not as beautiful as Cinderella and as a result she was envious of Cinderella, this represent a society dominated by envy and hate. The third symbol is the hazel tree that provided Cinderella with the wisdom and inspiration to overcome the abuse she was going through, this represents how society rewards…

Further, I analyzed that sexism in the narrative, especially in the scene where she was with the dwarfs and the only way that she could be accommodated, she was to serve them, cook for them, clean, sweep and wash to keep the cottage tidy. This is portraying that the roles of women are clean while the dwarfs symbolizing men go out to do menial jobs. Additionally, the plot of The Little Snow-White is straightforward, and it narrates a story where the beauty of the Little Snow-White attracts envy and hatred from her own stepmother, that almost caused her death. The beautiful queen with a heart as dark as the bats of the night ordered a huntsman to kill the innocent seven-year- old princess. The narrative was told from the point of view of an omniscient narrator that gives the reader the opportunity to share in the struggle of the little princess.…

In the Grimm’s brother’s version, the folktale ended violently and fiercely because “the two step-sister’s eyes were pecked out by pigeons for their wickedness and falsehood” and they were blind as long as they lived. According to Maria Tatar the author of numerous articles on fairy tales and also ten scholarly books, “fairy tales have modeled behavioral codes and development paths, even as they provide us with terms for thinking about what happens in our world”…

The musical Into the Woods, by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and James Lapine (book) is a compilation of fairytales with a unique twist of life’s hard lessons after getting what you “wished” for. The play’s main story line is composed of well-known fairytales such as: Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Jack and the bean stock. These fairytales are all intertwined in order to help the protagonist (the baker) collect all the ingredients the witch has asked for in order for him and his wife to have a baby. The play is a metaphor for the different paths a person may take when opportunities unfold.…

Fairy tales grow from the life experience and the imagination of a particular group of people. They meet four basic human needs; explain mysteries, articulate fears and dreams, impose order and also entertain. Each tale consists of a theme that goes beyond the scope of the story while using the story as a foundation and a motifs or subject matter. Within the Little Red Riding Hood tales the motif of naivety or the loss of naivety prevails. In three different versions of the tale, the Little Red Riding Hood characters naivety is developed in three very different ways.…
