Recycling: More than Being Green
“A glass container can go from a recycling bin to a store shelf in as few as 30 days” (“11 Facts About Recycling”). Recycling is an essential for everyone on this planet. Recycling has let us reuse millions of tons of garbage (“11 Facts About Recycling”). It may be easy for people to just recycle the appropriate materials, but some people are lazy and create more waste than they should, making it harder for the people at the recycling companies to do their job. Recycling helps us realize what people throw away can be reused again and again. Recycling should be mandatory because it will save energy, reduce landfills, and protect the environment.

It prolongs the earth, and may not protect in the way you might think. It will decrease the usage of trash, resulting in a safer environment, which will make the earth last longer. Michael Maniates, a professor of environmental science at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania states “recycling is a wonderful thing to do if we’re comparing it to throwing stuff away, it has become a reward for consumption” (Tugend). Which will help out everyone in the environment. There are many ways to protect the environment before you recycle, recycling should be a last resort (Tugend). Recycling also protects the animals. Since there has been an increase of oil needs because of recycling the sea creatures haven’t had to worry about all the extra oil being poured into the ocean (Berr). Besides the oil, animals are ingesting the garbage. In New York people are throwing away plastic bags instead of recycling them causing them to be carried from the dump into the water where whales and sea turtles are eating them which in turn kills them (Barnard). The earth will have a great life cycle flow again if they can cut back on the
