Apparently plastics being recycled by consumers may have actually never been recycled at all and instead have been "buried in landfills or incinerated". This is a huge problem because not only have consumers been lied to but people were actually throwing away possible products and money. The industry still "remains underdeveloped despite decades of public education and investment" the article states. Plastic could not only decrease the amount of fossil fuel (oil) we use but also increase production and assets. One can conclude that the issue with the …show more content…

Cities get access to capital without sacrificing funding for schools and other services and recycling companies are able to act without bank funding. And with the products made through the plastic recycled more products could be produced leaving us with more supply as well as income for many companies. Who knew that trash could be worth

In No Impact Man, Colin Beavan discusses many important topics, one of which is about trash. This topic got my interest because we see it everywhere, Colin goes into detail and discusses a lot of facts about it. An interesting observation was made regarding the black color of trash bags, that the reason trash bags are black instead of transparent is because people do not or cannot deal with seeing what is inside of them. Another related topic that always gets my concerns is recycling our waste. There are a lot of people that don’t recycle and just don’t care.…

Plastic recycling and reusing can become very tricky because the dependence is on location and what types of plastic can be recycled in that factory. Plastics can only be down cycled, meaning they can't be used to make the same quality product and eventually have to go to landfill. Plastic bags make it so much easier to carry our groceries as compared to paper bags. Plastic wrappers do not stick to the food product and can be disposed of without taking up much. Utensils made of plastics make cleaning up easier, because they can just be thrown away. All of these luxuries have come from the invention of using plastics to make disposables, but such disposable items are not disposable in the sense that they are hard to break down. Thus, the “luxuries” actually made me realize the dangers of overusing plastics, leading me to look into the environment and how humans are harming the environment outside of plastic…
