Recruitment Counselors

1. The importance of recruitment counselors during the recruitment experience is to help give the PNMs guidance to their home. I believe the PNM experience would be very different without counselors. Without the counselors, the PNM would not have someone to talk to about any issues they’re having within this process. The PNMs are able to go to the recruitment counselors for advice since the counselors have personally been through the process.
2. A time I have worked with a difficult team member is when I worked with a person that was negative about everything. They always thought the worst in every situation, even if the situation wasn’t a big issue. I handled this situation by pointing out the positive points to them every time they spoke

What I found most useful about the reading was the clear message for advocacy on behalf of the counselor. Therefore, the counselor has to expand and not take on the ordianry counselor role, instead push boundaries, advocate, and do more than the norm. For example, "The belief is that helping professionals can no longer operate solely from the comfort of their offices if they wish to better serve their constituencies". Advocating for the client is huge because the counselor becomes the voice of the voiceless. Furthermore, the counselor needs to change to more of an ecological perspective to have a well-rounded understanding of the client.…

Why it is important to understand the role(s) of the lay counselor. In my thought after completing the reading, how does a counselor appropriately respond to what the other individual has to articulate? In my judgment he/she uses their Listening techniques, and observe the type of conversation being displayed, only then he can suitably respond to what the other individual affirmed. I think the writer is stating that there are many different approaches to a how a counselor would appropriately respond to another individual.…

I worked in a sales related field for over sixteen years. Some of the successful National Guard recruiters I worked with had big outgoing personalities while others were more reserved. Some of those that were really successful had the big personalites, but some of the more reserved recruiters also were very successful. That pattern worked both ways as there were also failures on both sides of the personality scale. Deeter-Schmelz, D., & Sojka, J. (2007), indicated that there are no conclusions that one personality type would be more successful than another when it comes to sales.…

The Human Resources Sergeant exemplifies what it is to be a Profession of Arms and a professional. As it notes in the very first page of the Army white paper The Profession of Arms “I am an expert and a professional” (TRADOC, 2010) We can note and many would agree that the Soldiers Creed sums up and gives an overall understanding to what exactly is The Profession of Arms and what it is to be a professional in the U.S. Army. The Army as a whole is always moving and changing and we as Soldiers and in particular Human Resource Sergeants must change with it, all while remaining effective and exceeding expectations as a professional within our profession.…

Not only did I connect to this quote because the Jets are my favorite NFL team but also due to the relevance of young recruiting especially in the football industry. The younger and younger that colligate football programs are recruiting athletes the more unknowledgeable about the choice they’re making the athlete is. I remember reading an article a few years ago from a local paper in Vermont about a young star from the south who was recruited so young he told his parents which school he wanted to go to because they had a good mascot and cool school colors. Now, this is NOT a good reason to choose an institution and this quote made me think of just that.…

If I were appointed to serve on a criminal justice task force to improve recruitment in law enforcement, I would begin with scaling the structures of each agency from the bottom to the top. Almost every law enforcement agency has a chain of command and one superior at the top of that chain. According to Introduction To Law Enforcement, females seem to be excluded from law enforcement positions that reflect essential decision making (Doerner, 2016). Therefore, the emphasis would be directed on females in law enforcement and the recruitment of females in law enforcement. A stronger emphasis would be directed at commander or assistant commander positions for qualified females in each area that involves a spike in crime.…

In the movie Moneyball (based on the book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis), Billy Beane attempts to form a competitive baseball team for Oakland Athletics by assembling undervalued talent through a sophisticated approach of Sabermetrics. As demonstrated in the movie, a strong team can be built with empirical analysis of the game, answering objective questions and making data based decisions in athletic recruitment as against prejudice, wisdom and gut instincts. The team registered 20 consecutive wins and the sabermetric model became the future of baseball. Mr.Glen Cathey, who is SVP Talent Strategy KForce, writes about the topic: The Moneyball Approach to Recruitment.…
