How is the recruitment function related to the selection function? According to Wikipedia, recruitment is defined as the process used by organizations to attract, select, and hiring suitable candidates for a job function within the organization (Recruitment, n.d.). The recruitment process can be an internal task or can be outsourced to private firms, or any combination of the two. In my field, many healthcare organizations have a mix of internal recruitment for lower level positions and external recruitment using private firms and contracting firms for higher level or executive positions. In the recruitment process consists of the entire process from the when a job is created and posted to the time an employee is hired into the position. …show more content…
With many technical advancements and software systems in place, many employers utilize applicant tracking software systems for application intake to filter candidates based on a predetermined set of criteria. For example, if a degree is required for a position, the filter can be set to automatically disqualify candidates who do not have a degree, regardless of experience and other factors. Other systems use a weighted system where a candidate must “score” a certain amount of points in order to pass through to the next stage of selection. Other selection tools could be psychological or specific skill based tests, but these must be approved by the …show more content…
The staffing function covers the recruitment and selection process previously mentioned. The training and development function provides the employees the required education required to perform in existing job functions, learn new skills, and provide education on company and industry policies required to function within the organization. For example, human resources may own the process of setting policies to make sure employees complete mandatory training such as sexual harassment training, fire safety, or company ethics programs. Employees are motivated when they feel like they are taken care of and have a place to voice concerns or have issues addressed. Many HR departments have Employee Assistance Programs and other organizational groups to provide assistance to employees in need. Employees are also motivated by compensation and benefits, which are both managed by human resources. Compensation packages can be very complex between medical and dental plans, retirement plans, and insurance plans and often change yearly during annual enrollments. The maintenance function of HR focuses on the commitment and loyalty of employees, ensuring rules and policies are adhered to and dealing with performance or employee issues along with management.
