In my lifetime, international terrorism and its devastating loss of life across the world has become a norm, scenes of devastation are regularly on TV and social media. However, if you look carefully when watching those dreadful scenes, there will always be someone there to help: a nurse, a fireman, a police officer, often heading in the opposite direction of fleeing crowds. These people and their jobs inspire me to work in the public service, and especially in understanding why people commit crimes, and how to prevent them. Recently I have been reading a book called Soldier Spy, Tom Marcus was recruited by MI5 after the 7/7 tube bombings in London to conduct an undercover mission.…

“One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one” (Agatha Christie). To begin, this quote exemplifies how soldiers are left with the feeling that war solves nothing since the events haunt them through their disabilities. By the same token, this quote illustrates soldiers who are faced with the distress and longing desires to flee from the trauma which they have encountered during their service. The death of those they have fought with, cried with, and faced…

I worked in a sales related field for over sixteen years. Some of the successful National Guard recruiters I worked with had big outgoing personalities while others were more reserved. Some of those that were really successful had the big personalites, but some of the more reserved recruiters also were very successful. That pattern worked both ways as there were also failures on both sides of the personality scale. Deeter-Schmelz, D., & Sojka, J. (2007), indicated that there are no conclusions that one personality type would be more successful than another when it comes to sales.…
