In his article, “Guns and Games,” John Glynn argues that people have incorrect beliefs about video games because the media blames them for the acts of violence happening in the United States. He shows the cognitive, motivational, and emotional benefits that come from playing these games. He also tells the reader that the media should be blaming the violence on the situation with guns in this country instead of the “scapegoat,” video games. His argument is very effective at convincing the readers that his argument is credible. He has many of the requirements for an effective argument, such as his authoritative and emotional tone, credible sources and evidence, and having a counterargument.…

The music video for Five Finger Death Punch’s song Wrong Side of Heaven brings to light an unfortunate side of the war machine of the United States of America. The US military trains its soldiers to be iron engines of destruction, and when a soldier buckles under the pressure of those expectations, they will often conceal the crack in their ‘mental armor’ out of a fear of being believed useless. It was only when the suicide rate for active duty soldiers began to outpace the number of combat deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan that the US military began to realize how much of a problem combat stress and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have become. While the US military is making efforts to treat and prevent combat stress and PTSD, they have allies in the effort to aid active duty soldiers and veterans. Operation Supply Drop (OSD) has made its mission “to provide a community connection to troops through video games and digital entertainment” (Operation Supply Drop).…
Video Games and Aggression Do video games amount to more than just entertainment in our everyday lives? With just how popular video games are in our society you have to wonder if they play a part in how we think and in our actions. The Columbine High School Massacre was a controversy among society questioning the public. The two teenagers who did this inhumane act were keen playing participants of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. An estimate of 97% of young adults participate in the entertainment of virtual experiences, influencing the gaming industry whom are responsible for national violent video game sales. Video games contribute to youth violence. I have many reasons to support my claim, the two most significant supporting reasons are children mimic behavior and actions from simulated experiences and the analysis If video games taught to military forces.…

“I saw it in a movie once!” Everyone has heard these words at least sometime in their lives and everyone knows that whatever came before it is most likely not true. Most movies are meant to entertain with various fantastical events that one way or another couldn’t really happen in reality. However, movies like this don’t present themselves as informational. But what about those that do?…
The active participation involved in video games is the reason why the results of game play tend to include aggressive feelings. The active participation causes people to pick up and learn behaviors better, and also is why video games might have a greater effect on people than violence portrayed on TV (Keim). Lastly, the Military uses first-person shooting games to help make the idea of war less repulsive. The extended exposure…

Jones believes that media violence is not harmful for children, it is helpful. Jones also believes that when children see and use violent media it is helping them in a positive way so children meet their emotional and developmental needs.…
Call of Duty Black Ops 2: Best Installment or faux pas? The speculation around what purpose video games have, is really just a perspective. However, there are a large variety of games that could fit the preferences of anyone on the planet. I say, “Look deeper than it just being a violent game.” There is meaning to violent games like Call of Duty. I think it’s best that we stay with our current status of video games. While playing these types of games you achieve a better level of academic success, improved motor skills and a quicker decision-making time.…
