Dear Editor, There is a problem in Piscataway, New Jersey that has been overlooked for years. There are no recreation centers in our town. There have not been any actively open centers for kids in Piscataway since around 2000. The most we had at one point was a pool. It was up and running years ago but was torn down. There were plans in place to build a recreation center in its place, but it was never built. There are many reasons why a recreation center will benefit our community. We desperately need a recreation center in our community. Having a center will help the local economy, give kids a safe place to have fun and learn, and bring the community together.
Everyone can agree that we could use an economic boost. Locally, nationally, and

Children in Piscataway don’t have that luxury anymore since the pool was torn down. Now kids are left with nothing but a library. Having a recreation center would give kids a safe place to have fun. Things should be included such as a movie room, pool, game room, and education centers for kids. There would be a potential to have programs and classes for kids of all ages. Children in this town should have a safe inviting place where they can have fun close to home. At the same time, their parents will know they are safe. A huge part would be that they would have opportunities to be on free rec sports teams. Not every parent has the money to pay for sports outside of school. The recreation center would have teams that the kid could join for free. The kids get to enjoy themselves and the parents don’t have to worry. There is no better feeling than that. Along with the aspect of fun, there can be an educational side as well. There can be free tutors, as well as classes for kids to take. There is the potential for more hands-on learning than is offered in school. That is another part that appeals to parents. They will be willing to let their kids attend a safe place every day where they can learn as well as having fun. Overall kids will get to have fun, learn, and make friends in a safe

For example, making Bulow Plantation more kid-friendly. Many adults go to Bulow plantation because of the scenery and because of the historical aspect, however, many children aren’t interested in these types of things. If Bulow Plantation had more kid-friendly things, such as outdoor games, and maybe even a playground area, people would be more likely to take their kids there and suggest it to others to bring their kids. Also, doing other things such as having events with music, snacks, etc. would certainly help in attracting people to Bulow.…

Summary I interviewed John Cummings whom is the Associate Director of Washburn’s Student Recreation & Wellness Center. Cummings received his Undergrad in History at Northern Arizona University and his Master’s in Public Administration from Drake University. I purposely selected Washburn’s Recreation & Wellness Center because that is the gym I personally use and did not know much about the managerial details and the overall statistics about the people that exercise at the Rec. The Recreation center is unique because it provides a different social atmosphere to over 500 students daily all who have made the conscious decision to come to exercise. The rec is not for athletic team practices and physical education classes its open to all students…

A topic that I find engaging and feel like I lose track of time when I talk about is softball it's something I love and can talk forever about. Softball is basically my life almost every day i'm practicing some how if it's at actual practice with my travel team or running plays through my head every night and thinking about how i can improve myself. When anyone comes and talks to me about games or anything to do with softball I immediately lose my train of thought and become engaged in the conversation and can go on for hours and feel like I've only talked for a few minutes. Softball is something I turn to when I'm mad, sad, or happy no matter what kind of day I've had going to practice or a game just makes it feel like there's nothing else in the world. As soon as I step onto the field the rest of the world just disappears and doesn't exist and the only thing that matters is what's inside the fields fence.…

I tell myself I have to turn my homework in, or I need to read this page, and study so I can pass my test to play Friday night.…

In the 21st century, it's common to know at least one person that does drugs, whether it be a friend or a family member. Among those people are athletes and high school students in general. Knowing this, I do not think high school sport players should be obligated to take regular drug tests. Playing a sport professionally and playing a sport for a high school are two different things. One big difference is that professional players make a lot of money, while high school players don't make any profit.…

PEDs From very early on, athletes have found ways of getting a step ahead of the rest by a vast range of procedures, legal and illegal, safe and dangerous, ethical and non-ethical. The first Olympians were no different; the origins of enhancing performance can be traced back to athletes eating specially prepared lizard meat, thought to give them a slight advantage to the rest. Naturally every athlete would like to perform at a higher level than everyone else, but many of the methods for becoming the best have been questioned and regulated for years. Both sides of this debate, for and against therefore mentioned regulations, have their strong points and hold very strongly in the public’s eyes.…

Most adults’ favorite memories are from their past years participating in sporting events throughout their high school careers. They may not have realized it at the time, but they created memories and friendships to last a lifetime. High school athletes of future generations could not have the opportunity to invent vivid, unforgettable memories and such close relationships as our older generations had the chance to do. Not only could our future students miss out on memories and fun, but they could lack the life skills which athletes gain from participating in sports. High schools should continue to offer sports to provide students with leadership skills, opportunities for community involvement, and college scholarships to prepare for a bright,…
