Recovery Proposal: Adopt-A-Family

Improved Essays
I think one of the times when I was at my best happened two years ago in my Junior year of high school. Our Interact Club was about to start a new fundraising project for a local organization called Adopt-a-Family. Basically, we would raise money and then buy Christmas presents for local families that were in need. The fundraiser was called “Penny Wars” in which each grade level would compete to raise the most money. Pennies and dollars were positive points, while nickels, dimes and quarters where negative points. We had an issue with advertising, however. So, I took it upon myself and showed great initiative and made an iMovie trailer on my iPad to advertise the event. I found another person who was willing to help and we came up with a concept for the trailer and went to work. We completed most of it that first day and showed it to the Interact Club advisors …show more content…
As an organization, we have a really good relationship with our local animal shelter and we hold an annual fundraiser every year for them. Typically our fundraiser would be selling “Hearts for H.A.R.T.” (Heartland Animal Rescue Team). However, we felt that the students were not really motivated to participate and our annual monies raised from that event became less and less each year. So, another member came up with the idea of us selling popcorn, instead. I took point on this project with my co-president and we coordinated all of the scheduling for the event including making the popcorn, distributing the popcorn, and cleaning up the mess we made with popcorn. The popcorn and bags were donated by the local boosters club which made every dollar received pure profit. The whole event went off without a hitch and we nearly tripled the profit of previous years. My co-president and I had the opportunity to deliver the check to the Animal Shelter and it was a really cool

I would get permission of the authorities, and go talk to a hospital and see if they are interested in this project. Also, I think once a year, we could send care packages to veterans, and wounded soldiers. I think this would be a great service for those fighting for our country. If this is a possibility, I would try to go to an organization that sends donations to our soldiers, and ask them if they would want to go about this project. I would try to get donations from various students, and companies with the help of some other members.…

My first mission trip was for an organization called 1Nation1Day through my church, Milestone, back home in 2013. The goal was to save the nation of Honduras in one day and continue to pour out love and support to the Hondurans so that they may be disciples for a lifetime. To prepare for the mission we spent the majority of the year 2012 fundraising to provide clothes, shoes, and meals for the Hondurans and were grateful enough to raise $250,000.00. Applications for the mission trip were sent out and anyone could go as long as they could pay for the trip, which cost $3275.00. While fundraising for Honduras I was also working at Subway as well as fundraising for my self through care packages that would be sent to the people of Honduras.…

One of them was on October 2013 when my friend asked me to join his group on walking for cancer. I agreed right away since I knew he was part of the nonprofit volunteer group called Bridge of Health where they help children who suffer from cancer but their families do not have sufficient funds to cover their expenses. I did some more research for why people walk for cancer except bringing awareness. I found out that it also raises millions of dollars for cancer research and treatment. It was an honor to be part of the team who was doing a phenomenal job.…

Last year, I had the chance to work with an organization called Santa’s Little helpers. It's an organization that raises gifts to give to children in orphanages, hospitals, foster care, ect. It was the first time it was coming to the Portland area, and the person in charge had allowed me to help out and be part of the team. A big problem was how we were gonna have the event run smoothly and set up an incentive that would make others want to donate. Since the event is on one specific day (like a blood drive), advertising was very crucial because we needed to make sure we had enough donations/gifts in order for it be a success.…

I was given the opportunity to run and manage my school's annual fall blood drive. This was an incredible experience to be able to work alongside the American Red Cross representatives, as well as my teachers to help save lives. I was incomprehensively moved by the student body, the faculty, and even the parents, at their willingness to give for the betterment of the lives of others. It was a true success, in all emphases of the word, and one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever gotten to be a part of.…
