Is there such thing as a repressed memory? A repressed memory is a memory of a traumatic experience unconsciously kept in the mind, where it is said to affect conscious desire, though, and action. The debate over this has been going on for many years. Many people believe that therapists and hypnosis bring on these memories. They believe that the therapist may influence someone to believe something that didn’t happen to them. Recovered memories and hypnosis are often known to be related. A recovered memory is a memory that was once repressed. Hypnosis can be a useful medical tool; it may help someone with smoking cessation, chronic pain, and other stress-related problems. After reading the article by Elizabeth Loftus, I came to this conclusion because memories have the ability to be manipulated and abused, which studies and analysis's have proven.
