I believe everyone led to the denial of the act of reconstruction because the south has prevented it by eliminating treats that vote for reconstruction and the North had President Grant that led to corruption in the economy making the northerners not have faith in the government. The reason i say the north and the south did not led to reconstruction is because many events happened to prevent the independance of the African American slaves. For an example 1860-1865 was the civil rights movement and the war that ended slavery apparently. Racist as it is and was, came election year, the year where they can make things change and make African americans truly be equal meaning they can work have an education and live like a white citizen. Of cource the south wanted reconstruction to happen but the KKK happened to see that, as the white people’s downfall and took it as a threat. In May 1870 the KKK killed a Senator named John. W Stephens a canidate to be voted for if you wanted reconstruction to happened. Obviously the KKK made a statement saying they did not want reconstruction and striking fear in anyone who was interested in voting for reconstruction. Causing both people and candidates to be shocked and worried that if they vote for construction they will end up getting killed. He was the president of the United States. He was a republican with an agenda of reconstruction. How ever he seemed like a trust worthy Presdient but then he started to become corrupt as he corrupted the econnomy and the governernent jobs in the North started to fall apart and millions of people were left homeless. That being said the North could not trust President grant or his agenda anymore so they had to vote to veto the Act of reconstruction and anything that has to do with President Grant was to be untrusted.
