Reconstruction in the Southern States after the Civil War was needed to heal the nation and move forward. President Lincoln sent agents to all the southern states to help start the reconstruction period. Each agent's job was to send the President at least three ways to help the South recover. After surveying the state of Mississippi, I found that there was a great deal of damage to roads and railroads. To move goods and people from the Delta to the Coast, the first order of business is to rebuild. The rebuilding of roads and railways will give freed slaves and former soldiers work at a livable
