Africans just became free or so they say. Yes African American’s were titled as “Freedmen” but were not treated so. For example the Black Code Laws in Opelousas, Louisiana limited black rights. One of them states that “Freedmen” could not go into Opelousas without permission from his employers. Another stated that they could not own/live in a house
