The reading and writing of text has had a tremendous impact on our everyday lives, becoming an important necessity. While virtually everyone in the United States is literate, there are a wide range of attitudes towards these activities ranging from some students who see it as a required and boring inconvenience in school to successful authors who have made millions crafting well written novels. My earliest recollections of reading include my parents reading to me when I was a young child. This helped develop my love for reading which would I would carry with me as I grew. In contrast, I remember first writing in school where it was given to me as a task that I needed to complete. Over my lifetime, there have been many different experiences …show more content…
I have never written for entertainment as I have always seen writing as work given to me in school. For this reason, I have never had the same love for writing as I have for reading. The task of writing began to become more difficult as the school years went on, as the prompts began to deviate from fiction themed and requirements to get a good grade grew stricter. I feel impartial to writing as on occasion I like to write if the essay prompt is interesting and I have an ample amount of time to complete it, while I can also dislike to write if the circumstances are flipped. I always make sure that I put forth my best effort when I write, whether it be enjoyable or …show more content…

Even though I strive to put out my best work for every assignment, I feel that my writing skills are unsubstantial. It seems like most students can look at a topic and know what to write, for me it takes copious amounts of time to even consider the starting point. I struggle especially with sticking to a topic and connecting with the material. If I cannot connect with the subject of the assignment, I have difficulty finding persistence. Additionally, I sense that my English classes have not fully prepared me to write at a college level, but have solely forced me stay at the high school level.…

I still do all of my homework, including reading articles, book, and writing papers, but I do not read or write much in my free time. Even though literacy has grown on me, I still would much rather do math or play outside than read a book or write a paper. Even though I do not enjoy literacy, does not mean that I am going to show that in my classroom. In fact, because I grew up disliking reading and writing it has made me want to make English more fun for my future students. I think literacy can be taught in a more exciting way than I learned it when I was in elementary school.…

I feel that my writing has improved after many years of different teachers requiring different writing styles in their class.
