In “The Stolen Party” by Liliana Heker, Rosaura’s mother tries to help her daughter, Rosaura, see the truth of the pains that lie in shadows amongst friends. Throughout “The Stolen Party” Heker’s characterization of Rosaura as a little girl fighting a fairytale battle against her mother’s view of the world. Although the innocence of Rosaura, conflicted with the experience, that Rosaura’s mother had, they contained their unity as a mother and daughter at the end of the day.

During the party, Rosaura was having the best time of her life. All the kids loved her except Luciana 's cousin. Rosaura was pleased that Senora Ines was needing her help. She assumed this was due to the fact only she could perform the tasks needed. Rosaura was delighted when the magician asked her to hold the monkey for the magic trick. The magician said, “Thank you very much, my little countess.” Which made Rosaura spirit soar to even new heights. The day was perfect. Rosaura had too much on the line and misbehaving was out of the question. She felt she had to prove her mother wrong about her friendship with the Ines '. At the end of the party, Rosaura told her mother, “I was the best-behaved at the party.” (Heker 406) Senora Ines also confirmed this by saying, “What a marvelous daughter you have, Herminia.” (Heker 407) Rosaura was pleased by her comment. She assumed Senora Ines would give her two parting gifts for being so well behaved. As Senora reached her compensation she stated, “You really and truly earned this; thank you for all you help, my pet.” (Heker 407) When Rosaura saw the bills, she was stunned. Rosaura tensed and pressed against her mother for support. Rosaura’s mother had expected this, and she knew she needed to support her daughter. Rosaura finally realized her true purpose for being at the party, and she was happy to have her mother by her
