When I look back on my own recess experience as an elementary student I remember digging tunnels out of snow hills, playing boys versus girls kickball games, chitchatting with groups of friends, and how refreshing it felt to be out of the classroom and outdoors. Recess benefits the whole child by influencing multiple factors of their health and wellness. It gives students the opportunity for various levels of physical activity while interacting with their environment. Recess is also a time when students develop socially and emotionally. They learn to communicate and navigate in social settings and develop relationships outside the classroom.
