Reception Density Research Paper

Decent Essays
The reception density will be different for each body part because it is most likely for our fingertips’ receptors to be more heightened than the back of our neck because we use our fingertips to sense objects surrounding us often. Since we were toddlers, the majority of our discoveries were through our sense of touch. A possible reason our hands, in general, to be more sensitive than the rest of our body can be traced back to Cenozoic Era, when the first sight of the human species was discovered. For example, humans in that era learned how to survive by touching fire. If they did not touch fire, they would not have known that fire is hot, and survived the ice age by warming themselves with fire.

One of the major channels of the spinal cord is the spinothalamic tract; a sensory pathway. It conveys nerve impulses for sensing pain, warmth, coolness, itching, tickling, deep pressure, and crude touch. (Tortora, 2014-01-22, p. 461). Based on that description and as the name implies, information will travel from the region of stimulation on the skin to the CNS, ultimately landing at its destination at the thalamus; thus, making it an ascending pathway. This pathway is further divided into three levels of neurons for transmission:…

Sensory impulses move though the body by being stimulated by a receptor in the skin. It then travels to the sensory neurons and through the afferent fibers, were it will end up at the spinal cord as well as the brain.…

Introduction Density measures the volume that a given amount of mass takes up. Usually, density has grams per unit volume as a unit. To find the density of an object, the object has to be measured and its mass has to be divided by its volume. Often times, density is used to identify substances, since different elements have specific densities. This experiment is made up of two sections; the first section measures the density of water and the density of an unknown substance.…

The Phenomenon of Pain Winston Churchill once said, “Critism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.” Pain is often perceived as a negative feeling, but Winston Churchill points out that pain is necessary in order to call attention to a problem with the body. Without pain an injury could go on without being noticed for a long period of time, which could lead to critical complications in the future.…

Surface roughness can be detected using these types of mechanoreceptors and is performed by moving the fingertips on a rough surface. Additionally, they are involved in the detection of small vibrations. In terms of their spatial density, there is no need to have a high-density of these receptors. This can be attributable to the fact that they are mainly placed in the deep layers of the skin, and the skin itself will be responsible for the transmission of the signals. Spacing closer than tenths of a millimeter would not add any further sensitivity, since the skin will distribute the applied forces over relatively large areas, around ten times the skin thickness Hair follicle receptors and the Meissner’s Corpuscles are among the mechanoreceptors with the capability of moderate adaptation rates.…

Electromagnetic waves are a type of radiation that is produced from electrons (negatively charged particles) and x-rays is a type of electromagnetic wave. The shorter the wavelength of a wave, the more energy the wave emits. Gamma radiation has the shortest wavelength amongst all the other electromagnetic waves and has the most energy. It cannot be seen or felt and can pass through almost anything. X-rays have slightly longer wavelengths than Gamma rays and has the second most energy emission.…
