RT 3700 Final 1. The manager’s ability to handle the areas that influence the work environment become critical to the department once things like money and other incentives become less available. Managers are suppose to create an environment that maximizes the development of each staff members potential. Work opportunities should be created where individual employees can meet their individual needs while meeting goals of the organization. The manager’s responsibility to ensure compliance with professional practice standards in the work place has contributed to closer scrutiny of the tie between organizational and departmental personnel evaluations and professional training and credentials. The managers challenge is to create performance indicators that assess contribution to departmental outcomes but do not require the manager to judge the competence of the staff. A special education teacher or nurse are two good examples of them. 4. The performance review errors usually consist of the leniency error, recency error, halo error, similarity error, horns error, and the error of central tendency. In preparation for gathering information, the manager reviews existing forms and formats and attends supportive training sessions. Training allows practices with the tools and opportunities to give feedback and to coach employees on their performances. These sessions also alert managers to the types of errors likely to occur as information is gathered. 5. The need for training and development has evolved out of rapid rate of change in the society and the workplace. The impulse for first line managers and staff to participate in training and development has come from a number of federal regulations, legislation and professional standards.
