Reba McEntire is a country singer that began her music career in high school. Her songs were based off hope and faith that she is carrying all throughout her life. McEntire once said “To succeed in life you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone.” The quote by Reba relates to how people need to have hope, strength, and humor in their life. The wishbone represents how others need to have hope and desire for good things to happen throughout their life. The backbone represents strength as well as holding life together, similar to a backbone. Lastly, the funny bone represents the humor and happiness that is needed in any person’s life. The backbone is one of the most important bones of the human body, it helps the body stand straight up, and protects the spinal cord. Without the protection and support from the backbone, the body would not be able to function at all. All humans need the backbone so they can live their daily lives and make their life exciting.
The funny bone is my most favored part of the quote. The funny bone is also a metaphor to the humor that is contained in a person. Everybody needs to have humor in all parts of their life. Reba represents this very well because she is a very happy and positive person. Reba is very cheerful and shows great examples to people of all ages.
Reba McEntire is positively impacting the world and continues to do so everyday. She has her own television shows where people can learn how she became a successful singer. Reba’s metaphorical use of wishbone, backbone, and funny bone is clever, and let’s the reader understand the quote well.
