The north and south disagreed with what happened during Reconstruction. During Reconstruction the first easter egg hunt on the white house lawn happened. Also the south was placed under military rule. The south killed Reconstruction because the KKK bribed the north, the lawlessness in the south, and the south was racist. After the Civil War Reconstruction happened. Reconstruction was fixing the south after the Civil War. Reconstruction was supported by scalawags, or southern whites, who supported reconstruction. It was also supported by Carpetbaggers were northerners who went South to help freedmen and Reconstruction. Last freedmen were African Americans who were freed during the Civil War. One is a lawyer, one a doctor, and some are farmers” ( Colby 513). The south killed reconstruction with the KKK on their team. Another reason why the south killed reconstruction is because of lawlessness . “No man can make a free speech in my County” ( Colby 513) This is saying that the county that he runs doesn’t have the freedom of speech. “ They set in and whipped me a thousand licks more” (Colby 513). After slavery had been outlawed the KKK had still whipped Colby. After the constitution and slavery had been outlawed the KKK still attacked the north. The last reason the south killed reconstruction was because the south was racist. The first reason why the south is racist was because the KKK killed Joseph Carter Abbott, a North Carolina Republican Senator, because he was an African American. “ He was foully murdered by the Ku-Klux” ( Tourgee 511) Another reason why the South was racist was because a group of the KKK whipped Abram Colby, a former slave, because he was the Georgia State Legislature.
