Why college athletes should not be paid Over the years, many colleges have had a lot of controversy over whether or not athletes should be paid to play college sports. Colleges should not allow players to receive compensation for sports. The purpose of going to college is to learn and acquire knowledge for a career of choice that will be pursued in the future. Athletes start off at college level, and then they further that experience at a professional level in which they will then be paid by the National Collegiate Athlete Association. College athletes are not professionals and therefore should not be paid. Most student athletes already have tuition paid for. They usually also have a lot of other

After graduating high school, it 's every athletes dream to play in college. College athletes should recognize that the opportunity they have been given to play a sport in college is something that a whole lot of people dream of achieving. Playing in college should be done for the love of the game and not the money. When they aren’t getting paid for playing a sport it is more of a choice and not a chore. Believing they shouldn’t get paid doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get reimbursed in some sort of form. The reimbursement they could be given could be a form of payment after completing college or even a full fund to pursue post-graduate education. The decision to pay college athletes would be a grievous mistake. Student athletes should not be paid for doing something that they signed up for. An exceptional athlete can refine skills and prepare for that next level where they can reap the rewards of their years of hard work after college. College sports serve to give students extracurricular activities to help them through the difficult academic life.
