13 Reasons why is a realistic fiction novel written by Jay Asher. The author has an interesting and also mind blowing way of taking us readers on a journey and help us learn this important lesson about the things we say we do, and how they can have an effect on people without us even knowing. The subject matter of my novel is teenage life or the reasoning behind suicide. The novel takes us through journey of Hannah’s Baker life and the reasoning behind her actions, and the pains she suffered.

Each location tells a specific part of the novel and has a huge effect of the meaning of the novel if changed. There are a series of characters that appear throughout the novel, but there are two main characters that help lead and direct the story. Each character has their own and unique individual personality that helps shape them as a character. There are 2 main characters that helps lead the story and explains the moral of the novel. Hannah Baker and Clay Jensen are the 2 characters that are mentioned throughout the book many times as we travel around the town of Crestmont. Hannah Baker is an indomitable and miserable person who had been through a lot and eventually who had heaps of problems and just couldn’t take it anymore and ended up committing suicide. Clay Jensen is a young boy who is very sympathetic, and conceded. When he receives the cassettes he’s not really opened to listening to them knowing there from a girl whose committed suicide. As the novel progresses Clay begins to see were Hannah is coming from, and all the pain she had went through. At the end he learns an important lesson and learns things he would have never learned if it weren’t for him being on her list. The moment you began to read this books the characters and theirs stories pull you deeper wanting you to continue reading. The main characters are very likeable, because they set the vibe of the story, and also help you actually picture and imagine it. Both characters relate to teens today in the real life world, and that’s one reason I believe this novel was written to help teens in middle and high school learn about the actions of our words and how they can actually harm someone. These characters can also relate to anyone even if your older or younger then the age group of teenagers, because
