Decent Essays
Animal circuses are inhumane because the animals are abused, are taken away from their natural habitat, and are dangerous not only to the people around them but also to themselves. Nobody thinks about what goes on behind closed doors at the circus: how the animals are treated, when they are fed, or what they go through just to put on show. As many animal lovers go to the zoo or to the circus, they would be disgusted to know how the animals are treated. If you have been to the circus you might be aware of how dangerous it is for the animals and for yourself. After all tigers are afraid of fire but are still pushed to jump through the flaming ring. Tricia Kenney, who is a mom of two girls, says that her girls wrote school papers about this animal cruelty a while back and said how her own daughters stated, ".. zoo's and aquariums, for the most part, try to recreate a natural environment for the animal and, more importantly, don't disrespect them by having them perform all day long and do things that are completely unnatural for them"(Wallace, pg.1). After that a Dad named Whit Honea discussed how he doesn't normally take his kids to the circus because of the "'abusive treatment'" (Wallace, pg.1). He also went on to say how when they take their occasional trips to the zoo, they make sure it is a zoo that provides rescue for animals and provides good animal care. Whit then goes on to say how he tries to make every trip to the zoo a learning experience and how the zoos and aquariums should start to do that, instead of abusing animals.…

The act of holding wild animals in captivity, specifically for the purpose of entertainment has led many people to associate their abnormal behaviors to psychological suffering. In essence, they serve as the living props for the actors and actresses that run the show. Among these animals, the most iconic of them all, are the Asian and African elephants.…

The exhibit that the animals are in can greatly affect their mental and physical health. Walking in circles for up to twelve hours a day is different from walking a few miles in one day for an elephant. They can get bored when seeing the same walls and trees every day in their lives at the zoo and for very social animals, it’s even worse. They are commonly placed alone in confinement and it makes them depressed and gloomy. When animals are kept in captivity the necessities they need to be healthy and survive are not being…

In these zoos, animals are treated cruelly and are killed for no reason, animals go through mental/psychological disorders, and lack the nutritious values that are only given to them in the wild. These reasons prove that zoos need to be shut down and these helpless animals deserve to live and thrive in the environment and habitat they come from. It is disturbing to think of how positive zoos are seen and how they are a popular attraction for people of all ages. Next time people go to a zoo, they should look closely at these animals and see the misery and depression in their…

Zoos are a form of animal cruelty because they keep animals confined. According to the Humane Society of the United States, animal cruelty can either be deliberate abuse or negligence towards an animal. This savagery takes place in environments that people feel should be safe for animals which are ultimately unsafe and unhealthy. In the article “The Reality of Zoos”, Michelle Carr said, “It instantly became very clear to me that the animals imprisoned in zoos are sad and don’t want to be kept in artificial environments, have people gawk at them, listen to children who bang on the windows of their enclosures, or have cameras flashing in their faces. To put it simply zoos are imprisoning animals who want to be free” (1).…

And just imagine, how would it feel like to be embarrassed in front of hundreds if not thousands of people doing tricks that could bring harm to your body? Certainly never we want this to happen to ourselves nor our family, so why should animals be treated as so?…

Thousands of cases of animal abuse are filed each year, but less than a quarter of them lead to convictions (Friedman 34). Many of these cases filed are due to the use of animals in entertainment. Today, places like zoos, circuses, bull fights, horse races, and others use animals as amusement. These entertainment industries thrive on well trained and compliant animals, which is difficult to achieve. Trainers then use punishment and cruelty to train and care for those animals.…
