Reasons For The Transatlantic Slave Trade

Decent Essays
The Transatlantic Slave Trade was a horrible experience for the African Americans. It showed us all that the African people were like objects. They were like tools the white folk used to do their chores like picking cotton, cleaning the house, watching kids, being servants and so on. I 'll be talking about two main reasons that caught my attention for the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The first reason is how long it took and how it took place, and the second is the victims and how they suffered and what they went through while being on the ocean. The slave trade was a disaster for the African people that even the people called it the “Maafa” which means “Great Disaster.” Some scholars, such as Marimba Ani and Maulana Karenga, use the terms "African …show more content…
The Atlantic Slave Trade lasted four centuries. It was from the 16th century to the 19th century. It involved several regions and continents such as Africa, America, the Caribbean, and Europe. The transatlantic slave trade was the biggest deportation in history even though some people say that the Africans were brought here to work at their own will when in fact the Africans were captured like animals and taken by force and were forced to work in plantation for white folk and sometimes they didn 't get any reward like money, food, or a place to sleep in. Millions of Africans were torn from their homes, deported to the American continent and sold as slaves. The Atlantic Slave Trade route was like a triangle. It was often known as the “triangular trade.” There 's an estimate that between 25 to 30 million people of whom were men, …show more content…
For me it was something that caught my attention because it was a tragic moment and it lasted for a long time and the thing that bothered me the most was the way the white folk treated the African people. I never had time to learn about the transatlantic slave trade in high school since it was never brought up. Learning about it now makes me feel shocked on the things they went through. They went through difficult times and yet we have people complaining about a job they don 't like while we had these hard working African people out in the sun all day picking cotton getting stabbed by the thorns and dealing with the fact that they don 't have a family anymore and they don 't remember who they are anymore. The slave trade was a big disaster and the people that got caught in it all were the Africans. Some brought with them a rock or soil of their homeland so they could remember where they came from and where they really belong. Millions of slaves died on this horrific event, to the white folk the slaves were just like pets being sold off like if they weren 't human. They treated the African people wrong. Not even giving them a proper place to sleep and they barely had enough to eat some on the other hand were lucky if they had a plantation owner who would give them a place to live in. While mostly all of the slaves they had to sleep in the cold or build a place in which they could survive in. Furthermore, no

One question you might have wondered about is “what is the Atlantic slave trade?” Some information that I found in, ‘The Cruelest Commerce” is,“the total of Africans who came to the Americans as slaves, experts today believe that between 10-12 million made the voyage to the “New World” countless others died on the Africans coast waiting to be loaded onto ships they died crossing the Atlantic Ocean.” Regarding this, the slaves (African men/woman/children) were taken from their home and loved ones to a place they have never been to or known of. Another piece of evidence is in “Boarding a Slave-Ship” the text said “The first object which saluted my eyes when I arrived on the coast was the sea, and a slave-shit, which was then riding at anchor,…

The events that occurred during the Middle Passage or “middle-leg” were some of the most inhumane happenings in all of history. On a search for “the rest of the world,” Christopher Columbus unintentionally opened a route for Europeans to reach what would soon become African slaves. Between 1450 and 1809, Africans were transported by Atlantic Slave Traders from factories to the Americas for labor. These Slave Traders transported Africans by ships which were called “Slave Ships” with only an economic view in mind. These African passengers were treated as nothing less than cargo as their human bodies were stripped past their dignity.…
