Settling in the west was a failure for example boomtowns. This made settling to the west a failure because Boomtowns were quick towns built and they didn't have any authority which lead to crime in the west. Also they were built near mining deposits. Another reason why settling in the west was a failure was because of harsh climate. This caused settling in the west to fail because when there was brutal freezing winters , followed by summer droughts it caused crops to die and also animals. Secondly it lead to a lack of tress and waters . Also sometimes people had to use 300ft wells just to get water. Lastly barbed wire was another reason why settling to the west was a failure.
