The definition of prostitution in the Oxford Dictionary is defined as “the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment” as well as “the unworthy or corrupt use of one’s talents for the sake of personal or financial gain” (Oxford Dictionaries, 2015). This profession dates back as far as the 18th century BC. Prostitution is a position few seek and is typically the last resort for those who have been excluded from society. While the women who are involved in prostitution call their selves various terms, it’s common for them to be referred to as prostitutes or hookers. It’s not work, it amounts to exploitation.

Some defenders may argue that prostitution is a way to solve poverty. This gives the illusion that only woman living in poverty should turn to prostitution in order to better their life. It’s unlikely that one would suggest for a man to use his penis, dance naked, or have objects inserted into him regularly just to get out of poverty.
