Gun control has been a debate and issue since 1963, and is usually followed by a mass shooting. According to procon.org, “22% of Americans own one or more guns (35% men, 12% women).” I oppose gun control laws because of our individual right to protection, the false circulating gun facts, and other reasonable solutions that can be implemented for safety. Removing guns wouldn’t bring peace and less murders but bring more chaos because people’s right to own one are being taken away from them. Not having a gun, by no means, guarantees your safety but increases more danger than the eye meets. “Whether in the field, at the range, or at home, a responsible and knowledgeable gun owner is rarely involved in a firearms accident of any kind” (2). The responsibility of a gun accident is up to the owner; education is needed to those that do not have the proper knowledge of guns (3). Citizens who oppose gun control want to prevent these accidents but believe gun control is not a necessary measure, education of guns are (4). A simple solution to these gun incidents are to require gun owners to take a proper education course to engrave safety into their minds. In addition, all guns require a gun safe to lock weapons inside so children, or anyone, having the access of a gun so easily is a false claim. Susan Baker states, “In 2013 arguments (such as romantic triangles, brawls fueled by alcohol or drugs, and arguments over money) resulted in 1,962 gun deaths (59.9% total)” (14). Supporters claim that removing these guns will not give an option for assault or murder in a conflict. When involved in an argument, the situation could get intense and, of course, cause someone to eventually want to murder the other person. The most seen weapon in these arguments are guns. Not only do guns make an easy kill but almost guarantees the death of the victim. The victim is also less likely to be aware you have a gun until you fire it. This obviously endangers people’s lives and should be taken
