In comparison to the forest, the outside world was a desert. It was almost as if trees stopped growing once you passed the border. It was also much warmer, as if the sun was closer there. There were no clouds and there were no animals. There was sand, dead bushes, and the occasional pile of bones. A small city could be seen on the horizon. The party decided they would stop there to see if they could get any more information on the mountain or this new world. Quill remained upon Willow’s shoulder. He was studying his small map. His eyes flickered across the paper as he occasionally whispered things to himself. Puck stuck his head out of the backpack. This made the buildings look as if they came from an old horror movie. They all had something about them that was broken, whether it was a window, a step, or chipped paint. Only one of these buildings seemed to hold life. Light poured out from the windows and energetic music filled the air around it. Willow smiled as she swung open the door.
