Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past thirty years (on that note, even ten years) acknowledges that the world has changed radically. From the rise and further advancement of computers, to the increasing prevalence of bioengineering, and even something as simple as how people discuss things all demonstrate that this is a radically different world from my parents, my grandparents and my great grandparents. With these innovations, problems both contemporary and archaic have reared their ugly heads; one of the greatest of these issues is bullying. This endearing issue, something in which we all have encountered by some means, and by some form, plays a massive role in our world today. Although it seems like this issue is something with no solution, many resources that have been acquired (from our innovations to the literature that has been created by great minds) prove that there are ideas about how to make this issue cease to exist.…

The main idea in this book is to watch what you do online because it can affect you in the long run. As teens we make mistakes so we can later learn from them, but the ones online could be the worst you will ever make in your life. “The idea of a “permanent record” used to be a myth used by school teaches to scare children into behaving, lest their bad deeds be written down in some alleged file that would haunt them forever. Now though, for better or worse, the permanent record is real, and has arrived in the form of the Internet” (2). What the author is basically saying is after you post on the internet it stays forever regardless of the delete button.…

Some would say bullying is a negative topic that can be hard to stop. Bullying can be defined as “Repeated aggressive behaviours that are intended to cause harm to a victim with relatively less power to defend themselves” (Faucher et al. 112). It presents itself as an issue from an early age(such as Kindergarten or Pre-Kindergarten) all the way up to bullying even in the workplace (such as hazing or even cyberbullying). It is a problem that only worsens as the ages climb and can become even suicidal if it gets too severe.…

In this paper the goal of my research is to understand the long term effects bullying causes in a person social development and self-esteem throughout their lives. I would like my readers who read my research paper to become aware of bullying and the importance of how bullying damages a person’s self-esteem and social development with just one word. This is an important topic for me because bullying has been around for a very long time and it has been known for many kids, adults that committed suicide. When it comes to the fine art of poetry, there is a fine line differing between good and bad. But how do you decipher when poetry is good? In my opinion, you can differ a piece of flawless literature from mediocre based purely upon the feeling it invokes. A piece of amazing literature can cause the reader to experience emotions that they would likely feel if they were genuinely in that situation, putting them in the shoes of the speaker within the piece of literature. In my opinion, an example of this is the poem “Troll” written by Shane Koyczan.…

“You won’t amount to anything…you’re too small…you can compete with us”. For my whole life I have been hearing those words from my peers to adults, coaches and the list goes on. During my school career it was a breeze until I got to middle school. Once I hit the sixth grade the name calling and constant judging from the seventh and eighth graders started. However, what really struck me with disbelief was how my “friends” started to treat me, as if joining in on the banter was “cool” and did it to fit in with the older/cooler kids.…

Reframing the obstacle to see the positive greatly helps the girls accept their difficult time of change. The girls do not pay attention to the fact that they are constantly being bullied and injured but take notice of the positives. Through this, they become more self-aware and gain more freedom. Furthermore, their relationships among themselves are strengthened. This is revealed when the narrator states on page 8 that, “...all their picking on and bullying did was...keep us together… [and] it was kind of nice...because for the first time[,] us girls found ourselves telling each other our troubles...without worrying about being laughed at”.…

Zachary Smith Mrs. Mobley Honors English 13 Feb 2015 How a Bully Causes Dropouts One out of nine high school students report that they have been bullied, that totals to about 2.8 million students (Stewart 39). A bully is a person who uses physical and mental abuses to manipulate and control other people. Bullies cause ten percent of high school students to leave high school before graduating (Stewart 40). The effort to stop bullying in high school would reduce the amount of dropouts and, in addition, reduce the amount of bullies entering the work force. A bully usually leads a life of crime and “has a one in four chance of ending up with a criminal record by age thirty” (Greenbum 27).…
