Imagination or reality? Based on Google, imagination is ‘the action of forming new ideas, or images, or concepts of external objects not present to the senses’ while reality is ‘the state of things as they actually exist’. These two terms - imagination and reality, may be seen as complete opposites but today, I will be telling you why imagination and reality might not be so different after all.
Firstly, imagination shapes the way we view reality. The way we view reality then shapes our actions, thoughts and expectations. Imagining positive things can help to change our mindset accordingly, leading us to see, act and behave in a positive manner. With the advancement in technology, many things that were deemed impossible in the past is now made possible. This can be seen from areas such as robotics technology where this technology is not widely present in the past. In the past, robots are mostly seen in books and films, where they are completely fictional and do not exist in society. However, in this day and age, our robotics industry is growing so rapidly where we have robots that can manage household chores to robots that can provide aid during a natural disaster. Besides the advancement of technology, our reality is drastically different from the past due to society’s changing mindset. This is because our perception of different issues have changed and situations that could only be imagined in the past is now our reality. An example would be the issue of gender equality. In the past, gender discrimination is very prevalent whether it is at home or at work. In China, there was a preference for males as they were the ones that would carry the family’s name. As compared to females where they were just going to be married off, providing no benefit to the family, many families thus preferred sons over daughters. Males at that time were also seen as strong and powerful, having the ability to join the workforce while women stay at home to look after the household. As compared to 2010, China has an estimated number of 137 million female workers, which …show more content…
