When you stop to think about all that we as individuals have become exposed to, things quite honestly beyond our control, you must also stop and wonder why do we as humans continually view the objectification of any one person or gender expectable? Searching through magazines, one soon becomes aware of the importance placed upon perfecting the human form. Ultimately creating an atmosphere laden with self-doubt and misunderstanding as advertisers along with media work tirelessly to make each one of us believe we must be something other than ourselves. In Kilbourne's video “The Dangerous Way Ads see Woman” Jean Kilbourne, points out that “Advertising is one of the most powerful educational forces in our society” yet seemingly the advertisers, give little thought as to their portrayal of women. Often times, advertisers resort to nearly monstrous tactics, tieing and chaining up, caging, and taping their model's mouths, all in their quest to create beauty while selling their products. Unfortunately, showing little sign towards taking responsibility for their part in the objectification of women. Advertisers continually push the limits of what are and are not acceptable. To do so would be denying ourselves the only chance we might have to be as provocative as the women we see in magazines or on television. The good news, several organizations, are fighting to Objectification. One such organization, WORD (Women Organized to Resist and Defend) known for forming rallies all over the world calling for an end to abusive, demeaning treatment, and inequality for women everywhere. Their members work to educate and fight for the rights of all. Stating ” We know that fighting racism, anti-LGBT bigotry and the oppression of the poor are part and parcel of our struggle.
