In the story George exclaims that he is feels like an absurb puppet, as he says, “…but in reality I was only an absurb puppet pushed to and fro by the will of those yellow faces behind.” This quote states that he felt controlled and powerless because of the crowd making him kill the elephant. A puppet is a model that is attached to strings controlled by a person. The person who controls this puppet it making the nonliving thing do what he or she desires. Puppets are used to entertain others or used to tell some type of story that is already made up or is made up right then. George felt like a puppet because the crowd follows him which makes him feel like being pushed against his own will.
