Throughout my life I have shaped part of my worldview on the idea that our bodies are not our own but God’s. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 the bible says, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” Since he made us, our purpose is to serve him and do his will. Many people seem to think that it’s their body and they can do what they want with it but this is simply not the point. Writer C.S. Lewis put it this way, “Whether I am, so to speak, the landlord of my own mind and body, or only a tenant, responsible to the landlord? If somebody else made me, for his own purposes, then I shall have a lot of duties which I should not have if I simply belong to myself.” This means that since we belong to God because he made us we need to serve him with our body and praise him with it. By doing this we can set examples for the others to see. As writer for Focus on the Family Del Tackett put it, “If we don't really believe the truth of God and live it, then our witness will be confusing and misleading (Tackett).” Part of what makes the Christian worldview seem less credible is because people claim to be christian but do not demonstrate it with their
