In the book The Unlikely Secret Agent by Ronnie Kasrils a woman, Eleanor was living amongst the South African Apartheid.…

The story explains that John and Mary are true lovers with growing love, and on a Tuesday breakfast with John, Mary goes to the kitchen, grabs a knife, returns and stabs John in the back. With the short information provided, Mary stabbing John does not make sense, and therefore Mary’s character suffers from lack of believability due to the lack of an explanation, which can restore her intentions and believability. The character in a story is the main foundation in any story, essay, or any other form of writing. These characters not only give the writing a purpose, but present the irony, symbols, and conflicts in the stories. Without the main character there would not be any sort of writing. The main character may also be dynamic, which means the change as the story goes on, or they may be flat, which meants that they don’t change. Stories, a form of communication found throughout time and in different cultures of human history, passed down from generations to generations, some telling tales of the past, some teaching important lessons, and some just for entertainment. Needless to say, stories are an important part of human existence. To begin, stories help readers see through the eyes of others and experience what it's like walking in their shoes. For example, when reading “The Indisputable Weight of the Ocean” by Darryl Berger, readers see through the eyes of Edmund, a boy who was brought up and home schooled by his mother, not interacting with other children growing up. In the story, Edmund, a young gentleman from a small seaside town must move to the big city.…

Harriet Jacobs, embodying women’s struggles to overcome a male-dominated society, demonstrates how agency is not limited to well-off white women. Jacobs, the first woman to write a slave narrative, was not even legally recognized as person, let alone as an individual on equal standing with any man, black or white. Although Fern and Jacobs both struggled to navigate complex relationships in a male dominated society, Fern at least enjoyed the luxury of citizenship. Jacobs’ Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl was extremely influential because it relayed the struggles of African American women struggling in the same society as white women, just in a very unique, often amplified way. Fern saw how women were seen as vessels to serve men’s needs…

Harriet Jacobs used the pseudonym when narrating because she wanted to protect her family. Harriet Jacob’s autobiography is a popular female eighteenth-century slave narrative.…
