Realist works depicted people in situations that arise in ordinary life. Similarly, the character in this movie Pi Patel portrayed as ordinary as he is, is put through situation which are not really full of happiness with a picture perfect life but has to go through many hardships to reach back home for his will to live life. Stuck on a boat with a tiger, an injured zebra, orangutan, a crazy hyena- Pi has to get through the journey dealing with all life threatening situations dealing with wild animals in the same life boat for survival. We see images that involve surrealism in which along with roughness of the sea and island he also encounter some unbelievably beautiful scenery in the sea that looked lit up at night with the light of nature. "Although the dream is a very strange phenomenon and an inexplicable mystery, far more inexplicable is the mystery and aspect our minds confer on certain objects and aspects of life." quoted by Chirico.
