Real World Pharmacy Practice

As a P1 student in SDSU’s pharmacy program one of the activities required to prepare us for real world pharmacy practice would be to participate in an interprofessional patient care activity with students in the school of nursing. I believe the goal of this activity was to expose both students in the different schools a chance to cooperatively work together and help solve a patient care problem. During this process we developed strategies to meet patient care needs, we learned about new tools and techniques and improved medication knowledge, and overall we learned more about the others respective field.
The partner I was assigned During this activity was Tiffany Finkral. One of the first processes we did together was to assess the situation and to develop ideas of what we needed to ask the patient to develop a care plan. The patient we had was a diabetic elderly patient with vision loss, and we asked general question about how she was taking her medications, asked her why she was not keeping up with her treatment, and if there were any issues with her current regiment and if there where improvements to be made. …show more content…
After this I activity I have learned that they do have good communication skills, but also I learned that they do a lot more in regards to medication management than I had previously thought they did. I think that working with students with other professions is a good Ideal, as it shows the other group what their role is in a healthcare team is and it promotes communications. This activity can also promote future professional relationships because the other profession has a better Idea what their role is and we can use that to develop better care plans for
